The Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2006 by Jackie Gingrich Cushman and Kathy Gingrich Lubbers.

Jackie Cushman, President
Cushman is a syndicated columnist, two time book author and professional speaker Cushman co-authored “5 Principles for a Successful Life: From our Family to Yours,” (Crown Forum) with her father, Newt Gingrich. In March 2010, she was nominated for a Georgia Writer’s Association (GWA) Georgia Author of the Year Award.
Cushman’s second book, “The Essential American: 15 Documents and Speeches Every American Should Own,” (Regnery) was published in 2011 and covers our nation’s history from Patrick Henry to President George H. W. Bush’s speech from the well of the House of Representatives after the attack on September 11, 2001.
Noted by the Washington Times for her “considerable talent” in writing, Cushman’s outlook and opinions are highly entertaining, inspirational and thought provoking. Audiences of community leaders, educators, entrepreneurs and executives are captured by her fresh ideas, friendly style and quick wit.
Cushman has extensive media exposure. Her work has been cited on the Today Show, New York Magazine, USA Today, and the Washington Times. Her background includes working in all three key areas that Purple Strong: economy, non-profits, and politics.
Cushman’s background in corporate finance, including running the financial planning department for a $3 billion wireless company, provides her with a unique financial perspective based on over a decade of work in operating companies. As a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, and having served as the teacher of the economics review section for the CFA Review course for the Atlanta Society for Financial Analysts, Cushman understands both the theory and practice of economics. She also earned her MBA in Finance from Georgia State University.
Cushman is passionate about improving the world her two children will inherit and endeavors to inspire others to learn, love and live their lives successfully. Cushman’s non-profit activities include having served on The Georgia Advisory Council for the Trust for Public Land, Serving on the Advisory Council for the Alliance Theatre, and of Genesis: A New Life. She is founder and chairman of the board of the Learning Makes a Difference Foundation. She has cochaired the Atlanta Botanical Garden Garden of Eden Ball, and worked with GEERS (Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students) on media training, messaging and message development.
Cushman served as a Senior Advisor and media surrogate for Newt Gingrich during his 2012 Republican Nomination run, where she not only survived, but thrived under media pressure. Her experience in politics spans four decades and includes volunteering, fundraising, strategy, and public relations/ media.
Cushman lives in Atlanta with her husband Jimmy Cushman, Jr., and their children.
Kathy Lubbers, Vice President
An independent thinker and entrepreneurial in nature, her ability to see and nurture the strengths, gifts and aptitude of others is one of her joys. Known for leveraging talent and team, she is keenly aware of the importance of working with and for others in a passion driven environment to triumph beyond one’s comfort zone.
Lubbers assists numerous clients in a wide array of public forums including television, radio, book publication (including e-book and audio) and DVD production. She understands the strategy behind the business of building personal platforms into strong brands as well as the specific tactical components critical in implementation. Lubbers has been a driving force in negotiating and promoting eleven New York Times bestsellers
Lubbers balances long term strategic planning with the need for immediate and tangible results. Her initial business venture grew five-fold in the seven years prior to selling the enterprise.
As President and CEO of Gingrich Communications, Inc., Lubbers was responsible for all aspects of the Speaker’s communications strategies: print, television, radio and online (www.Newt.org and bi-lingual www.TheAmericano.com); research; public policy; Congressional testimonies; public speaking; audio and book publication; and documentary film production fell within her purview. Her team executed a weekly e-newsletter with 850,000 readers, garnering over a million followers on Twitter and 120,000 Facebook fans.
As an entrepreneur, small business owner and as Managing Partner of several LLC’s, she knows what it takes to blend a team of professionals.
Having Rheumatoid Arthritis for over twenty-five years, Lubbers is dedicated to the finding a cure. As founder of the A2A4A (America 2 Anywhere 4 Arthritis) Team, she has followed the “Galloway” method to complete 6 marathons world wide raising funds ($190,000 and climbing) and awareness for the Arthritis Foundation. Lubbers served nine years on the Arthritis Foundation’s National Board and chaired the Marketing and Fundraising Committee for 4 years.
She is also a co-founder of the Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Inc.
Kathy served as Senior Advisor and media surrogate for Newt Gingrich during his 2012 Republican Presidential campaign. Her experience in politics spans four decades and includes volunteering, fundraising, strategy, public relations and media. Specific appearances include: “The View,” CNN’s “Wolf Blitzer, “Piers Morgan;” Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends,” and “The Sean Hannity Show.” She is bi-lingual and also appeared on CNN en Espanol, FOX News Latino and Radio Mambi.
Lubbers graduated from Davidson College with a major in Religion. She now in Key Biscayne, Florida with her husband, Paul, and their dog, Flint. She practices living fully in the present.
