The Learn, Earn and Achieve program inspires Jackie Gingrich Cushman, Founder of the Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, to co-author an incredible book with her father Newt Gingrich – pitch perfect for these challenging times.

This writing project began as a way to convey five key principles to Jackie’s children: Dream Big, Work Hard, Learn Every Day, Enjoy Life and Be True to Yourself.  Like many projects, after a fast start, it stalled.  Last year’s pilot Learn, Earn and Achieve program, funded by Charlie Loudermilk and run by the Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Inc. provided the fuel and inspiration to complete the first full draft of the book.
The Learn, Earn and Achieve program has changed the direction of underperforming math and science students (eighth and eleventh graders) in Fulton County, Georgia, proving that living by these five principles really does lead to success.

The LMDF launched the Learn, Earn and Achieve program in 2008 by working in small-group tutoring sessions and compensating students for their participation and improved grades.  An emphasis was placed on recognizing and rewarding academic achievement. The program has been tested by an independent research team and demonstrates proven results.  By the end of the first pilot program, Learn, Earn and Achieve students started applying themselves and outperformed the comparison group of similar students in math and science.

“5 Principles for a Successful Life: From Our Family to Yours,” published by Crown Forum and released this week, includes personal stories from Newt and Jackie and inspiring contributions from remarkable individuals on how they’ve reached success, providing readers with sound encouragement, a new perspective, and wisdom.

The Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Inc. accelerates and enhances knowledge through innovative learning programs: by acting as an incubator of ideas; by creating, implementing and testing new initiatives; by providing funding and support to nonprofit organizations and partners.

A portion of the books proceeds will benefit the Learning Makes a Difference Foundation, Inc.
